Why it pays to be an early adopter of video content on LinkedIn

When it comes to social media, being an “early adopter” is everything.

And LinkedIn has just dropped a major update that can give you first mover advantage in 2024 if you jump on the trend early.

We’re talking about tall format video shorts.

Earlier this year, LinkedIn started beta-testing featured videos, where it shows you relevant videos halfway down your feed, much like Facebook.

Here’s what it looks like in the LinkedIn mobile app:

Once you click one of these, it enters fullscreen mode and you can enter the scroll loop simply by swiping up.

The goal?

To keep people on platform longer by hooking them into a scroll cycle.

This is the next step in LinkedIn’s transition from a CV platform to a social media platform and – eventually – a video first platform.

Which brings me to the early adopter advantage:

To make this work, LinkedIn needs its users to create engaging, tall format videos that it can feature.

B2B reels, essentially.

Do this well, and you’ll be rewarded richly with organic reach.

The kind of reach TikTok was dishing out a few years ago, but instead of reaching bored 13 year olds, you’ll reach an engaged B2B audience.

So if you want your content strategy to bear fruits, video on LinkedIn is currently your best bet.
